Claudy Conn was born in 1895 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the daughter of a wealthy farmer, and she grew up in a comfortable home. However, Conn was always a bit of a rebel, and she longed to break free from the confines of her traditional upbringing.

In 1911, at the age of 16, Conn saw her first airplane. She was instantly fascinated by the machine, and she knew that she wanted to learn to fly. However, at that time, women were not allowed to fly airplanes. But Conn was not deterred. She disguised herself as a man and took flying lessons.
In 1913, Conn became the first woman to fly solo across the United States. She flew from San Francisco to New York City in a Curtiss JN-4 Jenny biplane. The flight took her 49 days, and she had to make several stops along the way. However, Conn persevered, and she finally completed her journey.
Conn's transcontinental flight made her a national celebrity. She was praised for her courage and determination, and she became a role model for other women who wanted to pursue careers in aviation.
Daredevilry and Stardom
After her transcontinental flight, Conn continued to push the boundaries of aviation. She set numerous aviation records, and she became known for her daring aerial acrobatics. Conn would often fly upside down, do loops, and even walk on the wings of her plane.
In addition to her aviation exploits, Conn was also a talented performer. She appeared in vaudeville shows and movies, and she even had her own radio show. Conn's infectious energy and fearless spirit made her a popular figure with audiences around the world.
Personal Life and Legacy
Claudy Conn was married twice, but both marriages ended in divorce. She had no children. Conn was a private person, and she never revealed much about her personal life. However, it is clear that she was a complex and fascinating woman.
Conn died in 1974 at the age of 78. She is buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. Conn's legacy lives on through her pioneering achievements in aviation. She was a true pioneer who helped to pave the way for other women in aviation.
